Why should I train with Datex?
Datex are an experienced commercial training company, who cater for every skill level and ensure the delivery of all your IT training needs. Our facilities are equipped with the latest teaching aids and training equipment, which facilitate a fast learning environment.

What type of training do you provide?
We specialise in instructor-led, hands-on training for small groups, at both our Training Centre and on customer sites.

Most of our courses are one-day or two-day intensives. More technical courses such as Web Design, Network Support and Programming may last up to five days. We also provide other types of training on request, such as demonstrations, drop-in clinics, and floor-walking.

How often do you run your scheduled courses?
The same course could be scheduled up to three times in any month. See our Course Schedules for dates. Remember that we also are able to schedule courses to meet you requirements.

How big are your classes?
For scheduled training, the maximum is six delegates. However, for one-company courses we are happy to take up to eight delegates, though still recommending a maximum of six. This ensures that all students receive individual attention.

Our demonstrations can accommodate up to twelve delegates, as there is no hands-on training involved. For drop-in clinics and floor-walking, our Trainer will work with as many delegates as is necessary during the time allocated.

Can you train on our site?
Yes, certainly. All we require is a room equipped for training the designated number of delegates, with a machine each. The room must be quiet, and away from disturbances.

What geographical area do you cover?
We currently have a dedicated Training Centre in Sheffield. We can also train on your site throughout the UK.

I require software training that is not detailed on the Datex course list. Can you help?
Yes. Datex are able to deliver training on virtually all commercial software applications. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

What does your ISO9000 quality registration mean?
We have been accredited, by the BSI (British Standards Institution), to the ISO9000 international standard since 1996. This means that our company procedures are subject to continuous scrutiny, to ensure that we provide a satisfactory and consistent quality of service to our customers. We guarantee that you will be satisfied with our training.

I see you are a Microsoft Certified Partner. What does that indicate?
The Microsoft Certified Partner program is Microsoft's premiere partnering program. Partners have Microsoft Certified Professionals on their staff, who have proven their knowledge in the latest technology through rigorous certification exams. The Microsoft Certification is a dependable measure of competency that you can count on.

What methods of training do you use in your training courses?
All of our courses are instructor led. Our core seminars are at least 80% hands on.

We use a technology called VNC. This stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is a remote display system which allows you to view a computer's display, not just on the computer it is running on, but also on other computers. This means that students can watch on their own screen, while the Trainer demonstrates how to perform an action, or types in programming code. They can also watch a presentation together without leaving their seats, or straining to see a screen at the front of the room. We find this to be a valuable, additional feature for certain training courses. Students greatly appreciate it, as it often clarifies concepts for them and aids in the presentation of complex techniques. However, we still consider personal instruction and hands-on practice to be the most important method of learning for all our students.

Do you provide training for Microsoft MOUS and MCP/MCSE exams?
Many of our courses are designed to match the requirements of the Microsoft exam syllabuses, and will help you prepare for the exams.

Microsoft strongly recommends that you have at least six months' experience in using the software before you attempt an exam.

We are not a Microsoft Testing Centre, so we don't book our delegates in for Microsoft exams. However, we can provide you with the information you need to book an exam yourself.

Speak to our Training Manager, who will provide you with further details.

I have taught myself to use computer software. Do I need a training course?
While frequent users of computer software will learn most of the basic functions, they will often develop skills for only about 10-15% of the advanced features. The result is inefficiency, wasted effort and higher costs. Training makes an employee more effective, and increases both their confidence and their value to their company. Think about attending one of our Intermediate/Advanced courses.

I can use CBT (Computer-Based Training) packages at the office - what advantages do your courses offer?
To work through computer-based training on your own needs a lot of self-discipline. Our courses provide personal attention and advice.

Computer-based training is usually done in short sessions of an hour or so, when you can fit in the time. This means that it may take you weeks to gain the expertise you learn in a short intensive course with Datex. CBT software packages contain standard training materials. Everyone works through the same exercises, regardless of their particular needs. With a Datex course, you will usually find that the Trainer is happy to cover specific topics relevant to your own work, or to spend time with you to ensure you have grasped an important concept. Datex training courses provide dedicated time for you to master and practise your skills with no distractions.

When you don't understand a concept in your CBT package, there is nobody to explain it to you. Datex courses are instructor-led, so you can ask questions and check on points you're not sure of.

What is E-Learning and do you provide it?
E-Learning is another form of Computer-based training which may run on-line over the Internet. The same advantages and disadvantages apply to E-Learning as to CBT (see above).

At Datex we remain committed to Instructor-led hands-on training, as we believe this is the most effective learning method for most students, and in the long run is also more cost-effective to employers, as productivity improvements can be seen immediately, rather than after weeks of short learning sessions.

What time do your courses start/finish?
Courses start at 9.30am, with registration at 9.15am. The finish-time of a course varies, depending on how the course runs, but is usually between 4.00pm and 4.30pm.

Is lunch provided? What time is lunch?
Lunch is at 12.30pm. We provide a buffet lunch. We can deal with special dietary requirements, as long as you inform us 48 hours before the start of your course.
